Broadway is shut down for the remainder of the year, pushing Jesse Williams' LGBTQ-themed production “Take Me Out” on hold. Deets inside…

Broadway is SHUT DOWN for the remainder of the year due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

“The Broadway experience can be deeply personal but it is also, crucially, communal,” said Thomas Schumacher, chairman of the board of The Broadway League, which represents producers.

“The alchemy of 1,000 strangers bonding into a single audience fueling each performer on stage and behind the scenes will be possible again when Broadway theatres can safely host full houses," he added. “The safety of our cast, crew, orchestra and audience is our highest priority and we look forward to returning to our stages only when it’s safe to do so.”

An official date for Broadway plays to return have been set after the curtain was closed on Broadway shows on March 12th. It’s the longest Broadway shut down in history.

Right now, theater owners and producers are offering refunds and exchanges for tickets purchased for shows through January 3rd.

The “Take Me Out” stage play debut - starring Jesse Williams - got pushed back due to the pandemic, which was originally set to debut in April.

Jesse is gearing up to make his Broadway debut in a revival of Richard Greenberg's Tony Award-winning play “Take Me Out,” directed by Scott Ellis. He’ll play Darren Lemming in the upcoming revival, which is about a baseball player who is forced to contend with the challenges of being a gay person of color.

“Modern Family” star Jesse Tyler Ferguson and “Suits” actor Patrick J. Adams will also star in the show.

”Take Me Out” is now set to begin previews March 22, 2021, at the Helen Hayes Theater.
