Paying homage…literally! Swizz Beatz says today’s Hip Hop artist should “pay taxes” to the pioneers who paved the way for them. Do you agree or disagree? Decide inside…
It’s always important to pay homage to those who helped pave the way for you to be great. Swizz Beatz believes today’s Hip Hop artist should literally pay up to Hip Hop creatives who helped elevate the game to what it is today.
In fact, the superproducer feels like today’s artists should “pay taxes” to the founders of Hip Hop.
The Verzuz Battle co-founder was chopping it up with rapper/podcast host Joe Budden while on Beatz’s Zone Radio via Instagram Live when he opened up about how the industry should take care of its founders.
"I want to raise a million dollars for each icon that started hip-hop...[DJ] Kool Herc on down,” he shared. “The fact we're not paying taxes on who started hip hop shows we don't f*cking really love Hip Hop. The fact we don't pay taxes as artists to those icons that paved the way took the lower cut for the music that allowed us to feed out families," Swizz continued.
"We need to be paying taxes to the creatives of hip-hop that gave us freedom of speech to go forward. "Melle Mel, Grandmaster Flash, Sugarhill Gang, minimum a million a piece. I’m passionate about this sh*,” he said.

That's an interesting concept. Do you think today's artists should "pay dues" - literally - to the Hip Hop OGs?!
