Actor/comedian Marlon Wayans was also spotted on set with the 38-year-old Grammy Award winner as he will portray Aretha’s first husband Ted White. The scene reportedly takes place in 1966 where Marlon is seen talking and collecting money from prostitutes while Jennifer looks on from a car. Later, JHud and Marlon are seen sharing a passionate kiss:

The musical production appropriately titled Respect will take us back to the chain of events that led to Mrs. Franklin being dubbed the Queen of Soul and then hone in on her rise to fame during the 60’s and 70’s. It's being directed by Liesl Tommy, a South African born director. She led the “Eclipsed” stage play about war torn Liberian women, starring Lupita Nyong’o.

The upcoming film will be backed by MGM. So far, Straight Outta Compton‘s Scott Bernstein and music producer Harvey Mason Jr. have signed on to produce the film. Harvey Mason Jr. worked with the Queen of Soul in the past and he also produced music for Dreamgirls, which starred JHud and earned her an Oscar.

JHud - who was hand picked by Aretha to play her - definitely has the vocal range to play the Queen of Soul, so y'all know the music will be A1.

RESPECT is set to hit theaters August 14, 2020.
