The Best Man just turned 20! Where did the time go? Take a trip down memory lane about one of our fave black films inside...

Twenty years ago the masses were blessed with the ultimate BLACKbuster classic that made its mark on the culture.

Yes, two decades have passed since we first saw Harper basically ruined and then saved his best friend Lance’s wedding. It almost didn’t happen, but by the end of the flick we were all in the aisles doing the Electric Slide to "Candy".

The Best Man first hit theaters on October 22, 1999. The rom-com drama was written and directed by Malcolm D. Lee and it was his first motion picture to hit the box office. His cousin, Spike Lee, served as a producer on the film. The classic film featured top-tiered actors, including Taye Diggs, Nia Long, Morriss Chestnut, Sanaa Lathan, Terrence Howard, Regina Hall and Monica Calhoun. FUN FACT: It was Regina Hall’s movie debut.

The movie won the Outstanding Motion Picture Award at the NAACP’s Image Awards. Best Man star Nia Long copped the Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture award and Terrence Howard won the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture award.

In 2013, The Best Man Holiday was released, serving as the perfect Christmas film to watch during the holidays.  And by perfect, we mean crying our eyes out into spiked hot chocolate because, sad AF.

For the film’s 20th birthday this week, director Malcolm D. Lee celebrated via social media:

Sanaa also posted a tribute:

YBF correspondent James Terrell sat down up with Malcolm D. Lee (alongside producer Will Parker) recently and asked him what he would tell his younger self 20 years ago. Lee dropped some cute gems.  Check it below:
