NEW WORK! Issa Rae & LaKeith Stanfield Begin Shooting 'The Photograph' + Tika Sumpter To Star In Potential 'black-ish' Spin-Off + Terry Crews Is Ready For 'White Chicks 2'

Issa Rae and LaKeith Stanfield are currently filming their new film, The Photograph. Meanwhile, there's news that Tika Sumpter is joining Tracee Ellis Ross' "black-ish" spin-off, and Terry Crews is optimistic about a White Chicks sequel. Everything inside...

Issa Rae and LaKeith Stanfield just kicked off filming a new romantic drama in NYC.

The "Insecure" star and the Sorry To Bother You star are the lead actors in Universal's The Photograph.  Yes, they're rightfully getting all the roles!

According to Variety, the romantic drama centers on intertwining love stories in the past and present.

Stella Meghie (pictured above) will direct and Will Packer will produce the film. Meghie's original script was so impressive, Universal brought her on to direct and she's also on board to executive produce. Issa has been tapped as an executive producer as well.

2019 is about to be an epic year for Issa. She's set to star and executive produce romantic comedy The Lovebirds, also starring Kumail Nanjiani. She's also gearing up for the Universal comedy, Little, to hit theaters next month, also starring Regina Hall and Marsai Martin.

LaKeith is killing it as well. Outside of "Atlanta" and Sorry To Bother You, the YBF actor recently finished production on Rian Johnson’s murder mystery Knives Out, the Safdie brothers’ Uncut Gems, and Netflix’s comedy, Someone Great. He has also reunited with his Get Out co-star Daniel Kaluuya in Ryan Coogler's Jesus Was My Homeboy.

Get it!

In TV news...

We told you Tracee Ellis Ross is possibly getting her own "black-ish" spin-off. But first, deets about an episode focused on her backstory is surfacing.

The show will air an episode later this season that will center on a younger version of Tracee's character Rainbow Johnson. The episode - set in the 1980s - will star former "Champions" star Anders Holm and "The Haves and the Have Nots" star Tika Sumpter as the parents of a young Rainbow.

If you're asking how this will work continuity wise, since the actress who currently plays Rainbow's mother, Anna Deavere Smith, is a totally different skin tone, you're not the only one.

Young Bow will be played by Arica Himmel, who appeared in "God Friended Me" and starred in "Thanksgiving." Other actors to join the episode include Ethan William Childress as Johan, Mykal-Michelle Harris as Santamonica, Gary Cole as Paul's father, Harrison, and Christina Anthony as Alicia's sister, Denise.

The episode will likely serves as the backdoor pilot for Tracee's potential spin-off. The reported plan is to test out the episode before the network decides if it wants to move forward with a potential series. If the spin-off gets the green light, it'll be the 2nd spin-off from the EMMY nominated series, following Yara Shahidi's "Grown-ish."

In other news...

Rumors about a White Chicks sequel coming down the pipeline have been swirling for almost a decade. Last year, Marlon Wayans shook up the rumor mill even more when he confirmed he and his co-creators were in talks for a sequel.

Now, original star Terry Crews says he would totally be down for a sequel, 15 years after the original hit theaters.

“I would love one,” the 54-year-old told US Weekly in a recent interview. “I’m staying in shape for White Chicks 2...I will never, ever get out of shape because that movie’s going to happen one day.”

In 2009, it was reported that Sony Pictures was on board for the project, with Shawn, Marlon and Keenen Wayans returning, but it never got off the ground. In the interview Marlon did last year, he said, "If things go right, we hope to do a White Chicks 2.”

So, if you're looking to see a sequel to the comedy, get ready. It may just happen.
